The Pere Marquette Rail-Trail begins in Midland, Michigan, and continues westward through Sanford, Coleman, and Loomis, ending in downtown Clare. The City of Clare is currently working on extending the trail to connect with a Michigan Department of Natural Resources trail, which starts approximately two miles west of Clare and proceeds to Evart. In 2009, a section of this trail was paved from just west of Clare through Farwell, and in 2010, it was paved through the Village of Lake.
This expansive 55-mile bicycle and multi-use trail runs through three counties, intersecting with the White Pine Trail in Reed City. It features both paved areas and sections with ballast or cinder surfaces.
